Earlier in the year PA. Senator Arlen Specter jumped the congressional divide from right to left in hopes to secure his future. Seems he misread the tea leaves. Not only did he abandon conservative principles (if he indeed ever had any) but voters may abandon him. This is what happens to Republicans who chicken out, as so many do, or neglect the conservative base. They lose every time. Specter ought to teach Republicans a valuable lesson. Stick with your conservative guns and eventually the American people will see the light. In fact, conservatism by its it nature advocates uncompromising integrity. When one compromise integrity for votes, as party jumping seems to imply, one plays the fool.
Uncomfortable town hall meetings are just the tip of the iceberg for Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. He now trails Republican Pat Toomey by double digits in his bid for reelection next year and is viewed unfavorably by a majority of the state’s voters.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Pennsylvania voters shows 48% would vote for Toomey if the election were held today. Just 36% would vote for Specter while four percent (4%) prefer a third option, and 12% are not sure.
These figures reflect a dramatic reversal since June.
