Congratulations to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints on their first Super Bowl win. I personally felt a bit more sympathy toward Brees than the Saints as a whole. It was Brees' time. Manning enjoyed many a magic moment in the shinning sun. Time to share the spotlight.
Another spotlight moment came at halftime with the ever dynamic rockers The Who. A few folks I visited with today seemed a bit disappointed in their performance. Those who held such ambivalent feelings never really appreciated the Who's anachronistic punk sound. From their early emergence during the mid sixties this group exploded with energetic, endless banging, yet soothing melodies that captured the more wild child side of us boomers. Indeed Roger Daltrey strained a bit in his attempts to reach the higher notes. And guitarist Pete Townshend missed a few notes on the harmonies. But, all in all they sounded distinctly familiar.
Furthermore, last night's venue presented a less than ideal situation for an aging rock band. Neither the Stones nor Tom Petty gave Grammy style performances during their Super Bowl experiences. I say let the Super Bowl be football and judge the half time aging rockers on their own turf.
For those who missed last night's aging rockers l post the You Tube version below.
