ROMNEY'S TWO EVANGELICAL VOTES
Blogger Rob Huddleston opines about Thompson's surge and Romney's decline. Huddleston makes this intriguing point concerning Nancy French's website Evangelicals for Mitt:
Bottom line: I like Nancy and David. They are great people, and the political process needs more like them. However, the ties to Romney's campaign are obvious. That isn't a crime or anything of the sort; it just makes the site another Astroturf effort at grassroots campaigning. The truth is that I don't know any evangelicals (outside of Nancy and David) who are supporting Governor Romney. (In fact, I don't know any supporting Guiliani or McCain, either, but there isn't an "Evangelicals for Rudy" site that I am aware of.)
I too, do not personally know one evangelical voting for Romney. His Mormonism keeps them away. I predict the more conservative evangelicals among us, right or wrong, will not even give him a nod. They tightly sealed their minds long ago when it comes to the Mormon faith. I've said this many times and I'll keep repeating it: if the Mormons would part with Joseph Smith and their kookie beginnings, and toss the book of Mormon out, then evangelicals may listen to them.
