President Bush said today that Israel defeated the Hezbollah. Bush declares:
...that Hezbollah guerillas suffered a defeat at the hands of Israel in their monthlong Mideast war.
He follow with these comments:
The president also said the war was part of a broader struggle between freedom and terror and "we can only imagine how much more dangerous this conflict would be if Iran had the nuclear weapon it seeks."
Bush said Iran and Syria were the primary sponsors of Hezbollah guerrillas who captured two Israeli soldiers, igniting the battle with Israel. More than 900 people were killed in the fighting, and there was massive destruction in southern Lebanon.
Bush said the "responsibility for this suffering lies with Hezbollah."
I never think of Bush as a spin-meister, but today he told a whopper. How did Israel defeat Hezbollah-by beating them back? Interesting that the Hezbollah leaders paint a different picture. Read what Sheik Hassan Nasrallah says about the matter.
The leader of Hizbullah, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, tonight claimed a "strategic and historic victory" over Israel as the first day of a ceasefire in the Middle East crisis brought a seemingly fragile calm following a month of fighting.
"We came out victorious in a war in which big Arab armies were defeated [before]," the cleric said.
To be sure spin doctor Nasrallah exaggerates a bit. More rhetoric, however, exist from Nasrallah:
- Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah on Monday evening said that his militant group would not be forced to disarm by 'intimidation or pressure,' in his first speech since a ceasefire went into effect Monday morning.
Also consider this:
Hezbollah distributed leaflets congratulating Lebanon on its "big victory" and thanking citizens for their patience during the fighting, which began July 12 when guerrillas killed three Israeli soldiers and captured two others in a cross-border raid.
It looks like Israel gets the raw end of the bargain. They lose their kidnapped soldiers, (of course that wasn't the real reason for Israel's aggression) they lose the propaganda war in the world's eyes, and Hezbollah still exists. No doubt Hezbollah will rearm to fight another day. As long as the world keeps drawing up cease fire agreements with evil, the evil will win every time. The world community must completely eradicate the cancer and its mother cell.
For a little different take on the issue go to planks constant.
