Remember those ancient words of wisdom? We know how important it is to love others. But do we love ourselves? No. I'm not talking about narcissism here. At the heart of narcissism lies self belittling, lack of confidence. So, we over compensate through our own unconscious self obsession.
I'm talking about genuine knowing who we are, and who we belong to. Do we feel comfortable in our own skin? We should. We ought to love ourselves so much that we give up our selfishness; put others first. When we love ourselves then our security level rises and our selfishness lowers.
Here's what I've learned over the years about loving self:
- I'm created in God's image. That means royalty.
- I've been given dominion over all things
- My family loves me, forgives, and encourages me even when I fail
- People care about me when I care about them first. Therefore, when I care about people I do so out of my own security. In return, when others begin to care about me I feel even more secure.
I provided a video below via Christian Simpson, that is both funny and truthful. Love yourself and you will be able to sing and dance (in spirit) like these guys.
